I recently received these pants. It is 11 degrees this evening in Northern New Jersey, so I decided to put them to a test. On a mile and a half walk, with a single Smartwool thermal base layer, they definitely kept me warm. I could feel a bit of the cold coming in around the knee, but the temperatures were way below the level in which I would wear them in a stand. In case the product description is not clear, these are wool pants with an insulation layer. They are not fleece. As a result they are a bit heavier in actual weight, but if you are a fan of natural materials, these are a nice option. The material is dead quiet. The pants have a tailored fit - especially through the waist and thigh and may run slightly small. I bought the 32x32. I am 5'11.5" 160lbs and usually wear a 31x32. The waist fits snug, but the length was perfect.. The lower leg is wider to accommodate knee high rubber boots. I also really like the pocket configuration and the quality of the zippers. There is no calf zipper, but I was able to easily fit the lower leg over my Lacrosse insulated boots. Overall, I am very impressed with the quality of this item. Two things keep me from giving 5 stars - even though I really like the pants and am very happy with the quality. First, the lack of calf zipper. Second, the bottomland camouflage prints a bit dark on the wool, which you can see in the catalogue pictures and may blob at range. But these are very nice pants. Very warm. Very quiet.
