SELECTED by Colorado in the first round (eighth overall) of the 1995 June draft.
CAREER: Todd Helton is one of only five players in major league history to possess a .330 career batting average, .400 on-base percentage, and .600 slugging percentage, joining Lou Gehrig, Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, and, after qualifying last season, Albert Pujols…since first putting on a major league uniform on Aug. 2, 1997, he has been the best hitter in the major leagues at .337…he is the only player in the history of the game to hit at least .315 with 25 home runs and 95 RBI in each of his first seven full seasons in the majors (1998-2004)…Colorado’s first round selection in the 1995 June draft (eighth overall), Helton enters 2005 with the highest career batting average (.337) and third-highest slugging percentage (.607) among all active major leaguers…in fact, Helton, Pujols (.621), and Barry Bonds (.611) are the only active players with a slugging percentage over .600…only six players own higher slugging marks in baseball history…Helton’s .337 career batting average ranks 23rd all-time and is the second-highest of any player since 1950…going back to World War II, Todd’s .337 batting clip trails only Ted Williams’ .340 mark and Tony Gwynn’s .338 average…

Helton ranks 10th all-time with a .4331 career on-base percentage, just behind Ty Cobb (.4333)…Todd has reached base a major league-leading 920 times over the past three seasons…since 1999, Helton has reached safely more times than any other player (2,088)…since the start of that ‘99 season, no player has a higher average (.341) or more doubles (334), while only Derek Jeter (1,348) has had more hits than Helton (1,342) in that span…since 2000, no one has a higher average (.344), more hits (1157) or more doubles (295) than Helton…during this decade, only Alex Rodriguez has scored more runs (752 to 719)…Helton’s .449 OBP and .626 SLG trail only Bonds during the new century…in 2005, Helton became the only player in major league history to hit at least 35 doubles in each of his first eight full seasons in the majors…
