Take a youth hunting. The future of waterfowl hunting is in their hands. -Todd Alofs |
Age: 46
Hometown: Hamilton, Michigan
What age did you start hunting: As soon as I could walk really. My dad took me out whenever he could, as well as my Grandpa and Uncle. I was usually the dog back then, be it retriever or flusher.
How many days a year do you hunt:100+
Favorite Hunting Area: Anywhere the birds are in USA/Canada
Favorite Style of Waterfowl Hunting: Flooded timber, flooded cypress breaks and a good field hunt from my layout blind.
Gun of Choice: Benelli Super Black Eagle, corked with a Pattern Master choke: Beat the crap out it since 2000 and it's still a duck and goose killing machine.
Favorite Drake Product: Everything! What's not to like? Great innovative products, built with the duck hunter in mind! But I guess I'm partial to the MST Quarter Zip Eqwader so far. I'm sure that will change over time though.
Favorite Duck/Goose call: I am a call maker and have been for 20 years, so it would definitely be my own. Hedge "Timber Xtreme"duck. Hedge "Warrior" short reed followed closely by my newest short reed goose call "The Natural Born Killer" or NBK as most are calling it now, built from acrylic.
Proudest Achievement: I have been blessed by God with a great family. I've been married to the same great lady for 25 years. We have an awesome son named Hunter who loves to hunt and fish. I've been fortunate to win several duck and goose calling contests, 25 over the years. Most recently 2003, 2006 and 2007 Michigan team meat duck calling.
I've been able to hunt waterfowl all over the US and Canada. And to be able to do just about anything I've ever wanted to do, as far as waterfowl hunting (Like landing a Field Expert position with Drake. So friggin' awesome!) I have also been awarded the Gene Nally award of excellence for going above and beyond in the local waterfowl organization I belong to, MBWA, which is a chapter of the Michigan Duck Hunter Association. So it's hard to pick just one.
But I guess if I have to pick just one within the waterfowl industry, it would have to be starting my call making business over 20 years ago and it's still going today. Stronger than ever before, selling everything I can build, and having waterfowl hunters all over the world using my products. Sort of like Drake Waterfowl! So you guy's know how I feel.
