I began waterfowl hunting on Maryland's Eastern Shore in 1968. Called in and shot my first goose that year. Essentially, I grew up in my father's store "the Gun Shop" in Easton, MD. It was the "hang-out" for local guides and their clients. I learned calling from these "Eastern Shoremen", and it became the music of my life.

I landed my first guiding job when I was 15-years-old. Getting paid to hunt was a dream come true, and tip-money motivated me to hone my skills. I was consumed with calling, as I am today, and used it to compensate for the shoddy decoy spreads the "new kid" had to hunt over.

In 1981 I went to the World Goose Calling Championship on a dare from my dad. I had never even heard of a calling contest before that day, but I stumbled through a "routine", and placed fourth in the World. I was using a call I had modified to better fit my style, it worked!

Now ruined by a little success, I continued to modify calls, and practice my calling. I felt that if I kept it up, I could duplicate goose voices, not just imitate them.

By fall of 1984 I made a prototype of what is now "The Eastern Shoreman World Champion Goose Call." I named it in honor of all of the guides that came before me in what was the Center of the Goose Hunting Universe, as I knew it.

So I kept at it, refined the design, and won the 1985 Mid Atlantic Goose Calling Contest. Then I won the 1985 World Goose Calling Championship, the Mid Atlantic again in 1986, and the World Championship again 1986.

Since 1985 my various models of goose calls have been used to win over 17 World Titles, countless regional events, and are used day-in and day-out by winners of 25 World Championship Titles.

In 1995 I won the World Goose Calling Champions of Champions event, which essentially retired me from competition Goose Calling.

I continue to design and make calls and guide operating guide services in Alberta Canada and on the Chesapeake Bay.
