Rob Somerville was brought up on the mean streets of Chicago's South Side. He saw many of his classmates get involved with drugs and gangs, some of them meeting an early demise due to the negative peer pressures that surrounded them. He attended Southern Illinois University and majored in marketing, but his love for the outdoors pulled him south. When he got married and decided to raise kids of his own, he moved to Tennessee. He began to see these evil influences reach even into the small rural towns where he lived. He combined his love of the outdoors with his growing concern for today's youth and formed the West Tennessee Youth Outdoor Jamboree. It grew from 60 kids the first year to over 2500 last year. The event is the largest free outdoor day for kids in the world. It has become so popular that the NWTF has joined in and made it its Annual State JAKES DAY, and the TWRA has named it its regional Youth educational event.

Together with fellow Knight & Hale Pro Staff team members, Jereme Thaxton and Greg Poole, and fellow Drake Waterfowl Associate - World Goose Calling Champion - Kelley Powers, Rob also visits area schools with his "On-Target" program, which teaches kids about safety and ethics in the outdoors, and encourages them to make positive decisions in their lives.

Rob is an avid deer and turkey hunter, and gives popular seminars on deer hunting across the South. His seminars touch on scouting, habitat, game management, stand placement, vocalization, and equipment. Rob is on the pro staff of many National companies including Drake Waterfowl, Ol' Tom Technical Gear, Bass Pro Shops, Knight & Hale, Muzzy Broadheads, Lakota Knives, Matthews Archery and more.

He hosted the World of Woods and Water TV Show for 8 years, and is currently the co-host of West Tennessee Rapid Fire, and West Tennessee Outdoors Magazine radio shows. Rob's popular syndicated outdoor column appears in eight newspapers across West Tennessee, as well as many regional magazines. He is also a free-lance magazine writer and has been published in Buckmasters and Turkey Call Magazines. He is the editor and co-owner of West Tennessee Outdoors Magazine and Michigan State's Hooks & Bullets and president of TOWA {Tennessee Outdoor Writer Association}.
